As previously advertised in The Vampire's Dispatch, we'll be taking in the open days of London's most famous, most beautiful cemeteries this year. Always a fascinating excursion into the art and architecture, history and lore of death in Queen Victoria's London, and of course, an excellent excuse for some extraordinary photo opportunities.
As always, the Cemetery Open Day season commences with Nunhead Cemetery's Open Day - taking place this Saturday, 16th May. We will together walk amongst the beautiful graves and tombstones of Nunhead, one of the most famous graveyards.
Entry is free (donations to the Friends of Nunhead Cemetery actively encouraged!)
There are many attractions waiting for us in there... and as the website announcement says, these include:
lots of stalls;
choir(s) and a dancer in the chapel,
tours of the cemetery and of the crypt,
chapel, crypt and coach porch visits,
birds of prey,
the bodger,
plant and book sales,
Cafe Woollacott and lots more....
* Dress to impress and come along to have fun with us.. Where else can we have better fun, Dear Vampires, than in the graveyard itself?
Getting there:
Nunhead Cemetery is but a short walk from Nunhead's overland train station (and thankfully, signposted all the way). Trainwise, there's a direct service from Victoria that takes just 15 minutes. At least two of your group's organisers will be on the main concourse of Victoria station (near the ticket windows) from 11:15am with an aim to catch the 11:31 to Nunhead.
For more train info, see www.thetube.com (Nunhead is in zone 3 for those interested in such things!).
